A native to Denver, Colorado, I received a BFA from Metropolitan State College in
Denver in December, 1996. Shortly thereafter, I began the AP life studies mentioned
in reference to my current series: Incarceration. At the risk of being too cryptic,
I must point out that this series is, naturally, more figurative than literal! The
following is a brief history of how I got here, and what I'm doing: First influenced by my brother, Vince, who was an art major at Denver University in the 60's, I was mesmerized by him drawing, painting and reading. I have many memories of him encouraging and instructing me from the time I was about 3 years old. In a very real sense, his willingness to spend the time to show me a couple of things about the above had everything to do with my confidence to try it. Further along in life, when I decided to take my young son to live with me in Mexico for a year, Vince was my biggest supporter in a journey that proved to be very important to me, and to my son. As a youngster, I had gone to Mexico with my family for a vacation, and apparently became inextricably linked to the many commonalities and differences we share as neighboring countries. I continue to find myself drawn to ponder, visit, and pine for Mexico. I suppose I owe my interest in Spanish to my other brother, Rick, who, while studying Spanish in Jr. High School, taught me to count to 100 and various other vocabulary tidbits. In addition to which, my 1st grade class was given an unprecedented opportunity to take a Spanish course, which was very effective. Old age prevents me from giving credit to the teacher by name, but rest assured that her image is forever in my memory! Perfectionism I owe to my mother, who insisted on championship-level completion of all household tasks! I owe all the rest to my 3 most faithful and compassionate supporters: (in order of appearance!) My father, Vincent P. Nicoletti, my son, Michael V. Nicoletti, and my husband, Jonathon P. Woodhead. I currently work as a freelance artist and as a Spanish language interpreter, document translator and instructor. Some exhibitions of my art include: 1991 - Calvin's Before and After, Exhibition with artist Valerie Crancer, Denver 1992 - Dreams Cafe, Solo show, Denver 1993 – Outdoor invitational art exhibition, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico 1994 – Juried Student Art Exhibition, Metropolitan State College, Denver 1995 – Sam Coffman "Memories of Orion" CD release party and art exhibition with artist Valerie Crancer 1996 - Juried Student Art Exhibition, Metropolitan State College, Denver 1996 – Senior Thesis Exhibition, Metropolitan State College, Denver 2004 - Vida, Solo show, Denver 2008 – Planet Laboratories, Solo show, Denver 2008 – San Antonio Visual Arts Inaugural Art Gala, National Juried Exhibition, San Antonio, Texas |
